Get the skills you need to undertake community work and provide support to a wide range of individuals and groups.

If you are interested in beginning your journey in the Community Services sector, the Certificate III in Community Services is the perfect introductory qualification. This qualification prepares you for entry-level roles and provides a pathway for further study within the sector.

Community Services workers generally support individuals through a person-centred approach, assisting clients in accessing necessary services and achieving their goals. This support may encompass emergency relief, advocacy, housing assistance, mental health support, multicultural services, and family support.

Additionally, community workers engage with groups and organisations by applying a strengths-based approach to resource access, service provision, advocacy for systemic change, and collaboration. They also possess knowledge of social, economic, and political factors that influence individuals and communities, including issues of marginalisation and disadvantage within Australian society.

Our experienced educators are committed to helping you develop effective communication and engagement skills for health and community service environments. You will learn how to respond to client needs, implement safe work practices for direct client contact, and manage personal stress within a workplace setting. The course also covers the development of skills necessary to provide day-to-day support in community contexts and to accurately refer clients to appropriate services.

Key principles of community services work include social justice, human rights, and principles of access and equity.

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be qualified to seek employment as a Community Services Worker under supervision, or to pursue further studies to expand your employment prospects. You may choose to enrol in a Certificate IV or Diploma-level qualification in Community Services at TasTAFE or pursue an undergraduate degree at university in a related area.
