TasTAFE has 3 professional working salons at Devonport, Alanvale and Campbell Street campuses, offering you the opportunity to learn and work as part of a team in simulated Hairdressing, Barbering, Nails and Beauty salon environments.
In all Hair and Beauty qualifications you will gain experience in consulting with clients, recommending products and services, applying a broad range of technical services, and developing your sales and consultation skills. You’ll also learn how to develop and expand your client base, communicate as part of a salon team, and apply safe hygiene, health and work practices.
Our Salon Assistant training provides you with the basic salon skills – from greeting and preparing clients for salon services and shampooing and drying hair to shape, to developing your knowledge of the hairdressing industry and relevant workplace safety procedures.
As a Hairdressing and Barbering apprentice, you’ll gain a broad range of technical hairdressing skills including designing and cutting hair, colouring, straightening and perming, and other related client services. Specialist Barbering skills include cutting hair using freehand clipper techniques, designing and maintaining beards and moustaches, and shaving heads and faces. You’ll also learn how to provide general men’s grooming services, identify and treat hair and scalp conditions, create graduated and layered haircut structures, and how to cut hair using over-comb techniques.
Our Beauty Services and Beauty Therapy learners develop skills in a range of beauty treatments and services including nail, waxing, lash and brow, lash extensions and make-up services. Nail Technology learners upskill in providing manicure and pedicure services, including nail art and acrylic and gel nail enhancements.
