FES and TasTAFE working for a sunny future

Future Energy Skills (FES) and TasTAFE are collaborating to upskill Tasmanian trainers in the delivery of solar PV and battery systems training.

FES is a not-for-profit organisation based in Melbourne that works in partnership with the electrotechnology, renewable, new energy and the electricity generation and supply sectors.

TasTAFE’s partnership with FES dates back to the Tasmanian Renewable Energy Training Audit completed in 2021. The audit identified the need and significant interest for re-introducing battery and solar training to TasTAFE and across Tasmania.

Funded through the Tasmanian Government’s Energising Tasmania initiative, the project is designed to increase workforce capacity in the sector by:

• Upskilling existing TasTAFE staff with the capability to deliver battery and solar training
• Procuring and upgrading infrastructure to enable the delivery of industry-endorsed battery and solar training
• Piloting the delivery of battery and solar training by TasTAFE, supported by FES, for industry

“It’s great to be working with FES on this project. Solar PV and battery systems are only going to become more important in the years to come, so it is crucial that we’re able to provide the best possible training to the workforce and continue to upskill in this area” TasTAFE CEO Grant Dreher said.

FES and TasTAFE have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that outlines their commitment to upskilling trainers in the sector.

The 2 companies also plan to explore other collaborative opportunities to meet the training and skills needs of the energy sector.

The ‘Increasing Workforce Capacity in Solar and Battery Storage Systems in Tasmania’ project is supported by the Tasmanian Government through the Department of State Growth and is funded by the Australian Government as part of Energising Tasmania.
