NAIDOC Week events 2022

As NAIDOC Week fell in the mid-year break this year, we hosted belated NAIDOC Week events at our Campbell Steet and Alanvale campuses this week.

Both events showcased this year’s theme of Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up! with fascinating guest speakers and performers, information displays and cultural food tastings.

At the Hobart event, local Aboriginal performers Djuker Hart, Tye Hart, Zane Scotney-Barron and Xavier Scotney Barren entertained the crowd with some traditional dances, and proud palawa singer/songwriter Dewayne Everett-Smith gave an inspiring and educational speech on the impacts of colonisation and the Aboriginal community in Tasmania today.

In Launceston, local Tasmanian Aboriginal man and published Author Adam Thompson spoke about his experience as and Aboriginal man and the importance of the Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up! theme.

Our Aboriginal Training Programs team members Lyndel Holton and Jan Langridge are responsible for organising the events in Launceston and Hobart respectively, and we wish to give them our sincere thanks as well as Amy Maher, Bobbie Dillion and James Collins who dedicated a lot of time to making sure both days were a success.
