Partnership supports TasTAFE metals teachers

Metals and manufacturing teachers are being supported to upskill through a partnership established by TasTAFE with the Tasmanian Minerals, Manufacturing and Energy Council (TMEC).

Given their strong commitment to delivering their staff with best practice and industry relevant training, TasTAFE sought the support of TMEC to provide this opportunity.

Recently, nine metal teachers from the north and north-west came together at the Devonport Campus to get some expert insight from TMEC on welding according to the latest industry standards, as well as the installation and operation of augmented reality welding simulators.

TMEC is regarded as the peak industry association for manufacturing in Tasmania. TMEC will assist TasTAFE teachers to receive their Weld Australia ISO9606 accreditation and upskill themselves along the way.

Manager Industry Relationships & Business Growth Matthew Dance said that the training demonstrates TasTAFE’s priority to deliver best possible training ““TasTAFE is committed to supporting our teaching staff in ensuring that their delivery of training is of a national standard and in line with  industry needs.”.

This is of particular importance in the metals area, “With the Tasmanian advanced manufacturing sector continuing to evolve at a rapid rate, it is important for TasTAFE to enable our teaching teams to deliver industry-authentic training”.

TasTAFE and TMEC share a strong working relationship which is helping support a skilled workforce for the metals and manufacturing sector.

Mr Dance said that TasTAFE is looking forward to working with TMEC to deliver similar training in August this year.
