TasTAFE’s Cyber Innovation Training Hub has been recognised with a TasICT Excellence Award.
The Cyber Innovation Training Hub took home the award for ‘Best Cyber Security Initiative 2024’ at the 28 June awards.
There was a record number of entries in the 2024 awards, showcasing the depth of the Tasmanian tech industry – a sector that contributes more than $1.7 billion annually to the state economy and employs more than 9,500 people.
Co-funded by the Australian and Tasmanian Governments, the Cyber Innovation Training Hub is located at TasTAFE’s Campbell Street Campus in Hobart.
Responding to current and future industry needs, the Hub is designed to replicate a real-life Cyber Security Operations Centre (SOC). In two dedicated rooms – Red for simulated attacks and Blue for asset defence – students learn to prevent, detect, analyse and respond to cyber security incidents, applying skills through cooperation, teamwork and problem solving.
A collaboration space between the two rooms provides further opportunities for learning, discussion, planning and debriefing.
Another Hub highlight is the ‘LEGO City Build – Cyber Games’ – a 50,000-brick construction that took 50 hours to build. Designed as a gaming tool for learners, the LEGO City simulates what could potentially happen in the event of a cyber-attack.
The Hub plays a key role in qualifications such as the Certificate IV in Cyber Security, and short courses for students and those already working in the ICT industry.
The facility also provides professional development for teachers in industry best practice and standards compliance, supporting Tasmania to build a skilled-up, cyber-aware workforce.
Congratulations to our 2024 TasICT Excellence Award winners.
