TasTAFE developing industry trainers

Sixteen industry specialists can now share their skills with others in Tasmanian energy and related sectors after completing a TasTAFE qualification to become a vocational trainer.
On 9 February, TasTAFE held a celebration at the Alanvale Campus in Launceston to celebrate the completion of round two of the Developing Industry Trainers Program.
TasTAFE CEO, Grant Dreher, said the program was helping TasTAFE support building industry capability across Tasmania’s energy and related sectors.
“Industry participants were supported through a fully funded pathway to completing a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE). The qualification allows participants to train, assist and assess – with a focus on supporting employees in their respective workplaces.
“The program was fast-tracked over four months, with participants offered tailored, individualised mentoring and support to ensure that they had the best possible chance of completing.”
“It enables employers to upskill their team members to meet training needs and is also a great way for individuals to take their first step towards training and assessing in the VET sector – complementing their industry experience and current employment.”
Incat Training Systems Coordinator, Rebekka Napper, has just completed the program and says she would highly recommend it.
“This course has helped to shape my own style of training. My training now maps closer to current industry standards which helps ensure a high level of training is always delivered at Incat.
“I couldn’t recommend it more. It’s an excellent opportunity for industry trained people to gain vital skills needed to pass on their experience to the next generation of trades people. I knew a lot about training going into the course but was amazed by some of the things I learned and I’ve now got so many more strings to my bow as a result,” Ms Napper said.
The Developing Industry Trainers Program is supported by the Tasmanian Government through the Department of State Growth and funded by the Australian Government as part of Energising Tasmania.
