The Tasmania Academy of Leadership and Sport is expanding into Northern Tasmania in 2026

The Tasmania Academy of Leadership and Sport (TALS) delivers a unique blend of classroom learning and industry immersion, tailored specifically to careers in the sports sector. Learners will be able to concurrently study a nationally recognised Diploma of Leadership and Management (BSB50420) and Diploma of Sport (SIS50321) in Launceston from February 2026.
TALS was launched in Hobart in early 2025 through a partnership between TasTAFE (Reg. 60142) and Tasmania Football Club. TALS is supported by Tasmania JackJumpers, Cricket Tasmania, and Netball Tasmania.
“I’d like to congratulate our elite sporting partners for prioritising the needs of future learners with the expansion of TALS to the north of the State. TasTAFE is proud to be training and educating Tasmania’s next generation with skills needed to thrive in the local sports industry,” said TasTAFE Interim-CEO Will McShane.
The course also provides direct links to professional clubs and sporting bodies, more than 100-hours of structured placement, and regular masterclasses with leading figures in sport and business. Current TALS student Lily Mills, from Westbury, reflected on the impact of the program.
“TALS has opened doors I never thought possible. I’ve had hands-on experience with the Devils, met incredible mentors, and secured employment with the Club as an Operations Assistant. Expanding to Launceston means more people in this region will get that same chance to pursue their dreams.”
